simplest way to protect yr Dmoll415 art
First: remember that nothing lasts; everything deteriorates. yr first duty as an art lover is to enjoy yr art NOW
Second: do not shy away from investing some money for conservation. remember, at present yr Dmoll415 art did not cost you very much. and there is a lot of shit out there that people are spending a lot a money on, recycled images, artists with no vision! yr Dmoll415 art has a history in the asheville asylum, and at some point...
Third: don't frame it yourself unless you know what you're doing. invest a couple of bucks and get a professional framer to set it. i'd suggest perhaps a shadowbox kind of frame (painting recessed 1/2" or a little more). ask yr framer to put it on acid-free (archival) paper or foam core (foam board), and to use UV glass or substitute. depending on the picture you bought, it will already have a light coat of Krylon UV resistance matte or clear coating. the newspaper used on all Dmoll415 paintings is truly 70 years old. 10 issues were wrapped into individual packets in original brown shopping paper by Ms. Mary Singleton during the war years. these bundles sat in her garage in woodfin, nc until she gave them to Dmoll415.
Fourth: now for the second danger: if yr an entomology freak you won't like what i'm going to say: kill them all, every last one of them with the help of the orkin army! these newspapers were made of wood pulp... a feast for just about every bug you can think of. if yr framer has no opinion, i'd suggest spraying it lightly on the back surface with an insect spray. maybe twice a year. check the frame every once in a while to see if any fine dust has collected at the bottom. if so, this shows the presence of something eating, swallowing, digesting and shitting. at this point give it a good dose.
Fifth: if you have bought flags remember that masonite does contain residues of oils. that means when hung in direct sunlight (where the rays actually fall on the surface), the masonite will dry on the painted side and shrink. frame and hang where the rays won't reach the acrylic surface.
Sixth: enjoying a painting means knowing a bit of the history of it (see the asheville asylum) and maybe a bit about the artist called Dmoll415. the neatest thing to do is the next time you have friends over let them know what it's all about. feel free to download a copy of the asylum from the internet and let them read it. if you want to know a little about it, ask.
